Gratitude. Such a powerful energy in our world. You know, the Law of Attraction and all that… what you project you receive. So when you are grateful for what you have you will receive more of the good stuff that you want. Easy, right?
But what about having gratitude when you receive an invoice or a bill? Do you open that envelope with your water or electricity bill and say “yes, thank you, I’m so grateful for the service you have been providing me!!”. No? Well here’s my take on that…
Someone is helping you with your business; they’ve given you their time, their expertise, their knowledge and you’ve been able to move your business forward due to whatever service they have provided you. The job is finished and they send you their invoice for the work. How do you react?
Do you baulk at the cost? Do you question the amount? Do you comment on how much money it is? Do you think to yourself “how on earth am I going to pay that?” Do you leave the invoice unpaid and overdue until they chase you?
Any of these behaviours (whether verbalised or not) gives out an energy of “ungratefulness” to the service provider. And we’ve all done it at some point or another. I’m just as guilty as the next person.
Unfortunately I’ve been on the receiving end of this a few times too and to be honest with you, it really hurts. It makes you feel sad that you’ve given your time and energy to someone and even if, at the time of service, they loved what you did when they baulk at the payment stage, it feels… well… it just hurts.
When cashflow is tight in a small business, all expenses are hard. But sometimes it just takes a moment to remember what a great service that person provided, or how they benefited your business, or how you wouldn’t be able to run your business without that service and to show gratitude and thanks for what you are paying for.
Here are some real life examples in my business:
- My phone bill, my internet bill, my electricity bill – I wouldn’t be able to operate my business without these.
- My monthly hosting bill, backup hosts, virus protection – I wouldn’t be able to run my websites without these.
- My contractors – who save me time in my business by performing tasks for me
- My hub leaders – who put so much time and effort into running My Wellness Business hubs each month
Do you see what I mean?
When we change our perspective around the bills. When we actually acknowledge the amount that we are paying out is, us showing gratitude to those people or that service (no matter how small or large) that they’ve done a great job, then this shift in energy will have such a dramatic effect on both your business and those that work for you.
Trust me it’s not easy. We have been so conditioned in our society to act negatively to bills, so it’s going to take a bit of work on your part and lots of conscious thinking.
